"Your life will never be the same"

People always talk about how much parenthood changes you, but I don’t think I could truly appreciate the subtleties until I experienced it myself. On the way home from the hospital, Tracy and I chatted about our changing perspectives. We talked about the breadth and depth of love—it amazed us that we could devote so much love toward one person without diminishing our love for each other. Indeed, our love for each other only strengthened. We considered the world that Carter is entering: a post-Cold War, post-9/11 world; a world without payphones, but where laptop computers and blackberries are commonplace; a world without loved-ones who were so much a part of our own childhoods. And, we prayed for safety and protection in ways that we’ve never before prayed.

Evidently Carter is the quiet, reflective-type—rather than chime in with his own changing perspectives, he slept the whole way home.

What's in a Name?

As you may know, we held off on a final name until the little fellow made his grand arrival. Contrary to the suspicions of friends and family, we did not decide on a name and then keep it secret. Rather, we found a few names we liked, waited for the little guy to show up, and then decided which one felt right. As it turned out, Carter Ryan was perfect.

You may not know, however, that while that bun was cooking in the oven, we had a string of names for him: Wiggle Worm, Poppy Seed, Pumpernickel, Booger Bear, Junior, Little Dude.

What a Woman!

Tracy is amazing. Throughout pregnancy, and especially during labor on June 25th, she showed unbelievable strength. Carter is a fortunate son and Adam is a grateful husband. We are lucky, indeed.

He's Here!
