We have a knack for buying games that take entirely too long to explain and play. A couple of years ago we were introduced to
Settlers of Catan and enjoyed it so much that I bought it for Christmas and have subsequently forced all of our family to play it with us. Last year we purchased a new game to play over the holidays –
British Rails. The rule book describes it as “the game of railroad construction and operation across the narrow confines of the home of railroading, Great Britain. Build your railroads across the mountain-covered islands and haul freight to make your fortune!"

Those of you that know Adam understand that this game has his name all over it – transportation, Europe, geography… We played the game several times last year then it managed to sit on the shelf for awhile. Well, Mimi was the latest victim of being forced to play a long and drawn out, but interesting game. I can’t tell you who won because it is still in progress. My eyes gave out last night and we called it a night shortly after Adam raked in several million pounds.
We enjoyed a tasty dessert midway through the game – warm blueberry compote with ice cream over almond pound cake. It sounds fancy and time consuming – but I can take no such credit. We sautéed the blueberries with butter and sugar over the stove for just a few minutes before serving and the cake was a
Tastefully Simple mix – all I had to do was add butter and water. Tastefully Simple is one of those home party lines similar to Pampered Chef, Creative Memories, etc. and it is one of my favorites. All of their items can be prepared in minutes and are usually very yummy.
Anyhow, if you are looking for a good game to play, we recommend Settlers, Rails, oh, and another classic that has been in my family for many years,
Acquire.
And Mimi, we all really enjoyed your visit! I am pretty sure you did too - especially all those Carter hugs. Hope by the time you read this you are home all safe and sound. Already looking forward to your next visit!
