Carter finished his 8-day blitz swim lessons on Friday and mama got to get in the water with him so he could teach me everything he has learned. Adam came to watch, entertain Ben, and take some video - so I thought I would share some highlights of his last lesson with you.
First up? Humpty Carter.
It goes like this:
Humpty Carter sat on a wall.
Humpty Carter had a great fall!
With this fun nursery rhyme lesson Carter learned how to enter the pool while sitting and how to enter with immediate exit (by turning around and grabbing wall).
Next up? Get the fishy.
They also had some floaty puzzles that Carter loved. Are you surprised? During one lesson, the puzzle pieces were on the side of the pool not put together, and Carter spent most of the lesson asking his teachers to put them together.
The next video was Carter's least favorite of the lessons. The Rollover. Basically, I help him go under water then he is supposed to roll to his back by himself and float. At this point, I still have to help him roll a bit (just by touching his forehead and back of head) and he can float by himself for over 5 seconds.
This next one still amazes me. I had no idea that my 2 year old could swim to the bottom of the pool to get a toy! The weight of the water really pushes him up, so we have to help guide him to the bottom, but he uses his goggles to grab the toy and brings it to the top.
And the final video is Carter jumping into the pool. Wow.
I cannot speak highly enough of this swim school. Several of my local friends have asked about it since my last blog post about my little fish. You can find them here. We did the mom-n-me class last year when Carter was almost 2. And this year we did the 8 day blitz where I dropped him off for 8 30-minute lessons. The instructors are very calm - even during the times when the littles get upset - or get water up their nose.
Carter got a certificate at the end of the lesson. It said he demonstrated BRAVERY & DILIGENCE in his lessons. Here is a list of the skills he mastered:
*Holds breath - exhales out of water - exhales in water
*Breath control with assistance - breath control independently
*Sit down entry
*Entry with immediate exit (turn around)
*Entry with swimming exit
*Entry with roll over
And here are the skills we started but are still working on:
*Side Breath work - pop up breath work
*Back "Monkey Airplane Soldier"
*Elementary Back stroke arms
*Standing entry - Jump
So proud of my little fish!
